Throughout his career, Sumit has been driven by a desire to challenge the limits of his own thinking and work with people who do the same, thereby changing the world around them. He studied electrical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology and kicked off his career in the oil services industry with Schlumberger in Egypt.

He moved to the U.S to pursue his master’s degree and joined Sun Labs, the R&D arm of Sun Microsystems, where he was one of the youngest members of a highly accomplished group of scientists and PhDs. At Sun Labs Sumit developed cutting-edge technology in Internet security and wireless, co-authored several papers and a patent, and helped drive the team’s efforts at various standard-setting bodies.

Sumit then ventured into the world of business and joined the MBA program at the Kellogg School of Management. Upon graduation, he joined McKinsey and Company and spent four years working with global Fortune 500 companies across the U.S., Middle East and India on a wide range of strategic issues. Sumit was nominated for a fellowship at the prestigious McKinsey Global Institute, McKinsey’s macroeconomic think-tank, where he led a key research study on India’s consumer markets. It was this experience that made him a believer in India’s long-term potential, and he decided to return in 2007.

Having lived a significant part of his life in Silicon Valley, Sumit understands the challenges and rewards of being an entrepreneur. He helped launch an Internet security startup in the dotcom era and co-founded an education services business while at business school. The opportunity to work every day with passionate entrepreneurs who are constantly innovating makes him excited about a long-term career in private equity.
